LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Restaurants in the Las Vegas valley continue to step in to aid victims of the Southern California wildfires as thousands have been displaced.
Rachel’s Kitchen announced it will collect donations Monday and Tuesday at six of its locations.
For Debbie Roxarzade, the owner of Rachel’s Kitchen, her desire to help was personal. She’s a native of Los Angeles.
“I just really felt helpless, so just seeing everything that’s been going on, I figured this is a great way for us to be able to do a little bit to help,” Roxarzade said.
The need is great in the Los Angeles area as some residents evacuated with the clothes on their backs, while others returned to find their homes destroyed.

Given the disaster, Rachel’s Kitchen is focused on specific items. They are looking for air mattresses, backpacks, blankets, bedding, baby supplies, bottled water, gift cards, hygiene products, menstrual products, non-perishable food, gift cards, and books and toys.
“Honestly, it’s devastating. I mean, it’s devastating for something like this to happen anywhere, but this is where I grew up. I know a lot of the streets. I know a lot of the areas. I can only imagine how things are going to be after all of this finally settles,” Roxarzade said.
Her parents drove from Los Angeles to stay with her but will travel back on Monday to their home. Roxarzade said it’s hard to see the wildfire pictures and hear from family and friends in LA.

“Several have been evacuated. Several have been displaced. I’ve had a couple of friends who lost their homes, so it’s just tough,” she said.
Whatever is collected Monday and Tuesday at Rachel’s Kitchen will be shipped in a truck Wednesday to organizations in Los Angeles distributing aid.
